Folk Songs of the World - another chance to enjoy some great community singing

In the past 6 months I have delivered two well-received 8-week courses for Strathclyde University's excellent Centre for Lifelong Learning: Songs of the Great Musicals and The Joy of Jazz Through Song III, in which my classes of enthusiastic participants sang and crooned their way through 16 hours of fun. I provide the history and guidance on singing but we all share in the joy of musical collaboration and participation.Folk Songs of the World will follow a similar format in which we will sing both familiar and unfamiliar folk material and explore the stories that lie behind the songs and the folk that created them. In our first session we shall look at the life of Cecil Sharp and others who helped to inspire a resurgence of interest in folk music and dancing 120 years ago.
