St Michael's Church Carols -

The performance of music in church has of course suffered through the Covid months and even when we returned to live music-making earlier this year it was a challenge having to work with social distancing, recordings and the understandable caution of performing together again. That said, it has been both a privilege and wonderful to have overseen the revival of our choir and to have encouraged the (masked) congregational singing. Our instrumental team of Hilary Jones and Trudie Ford on violins and Tracy Curle on cello, with David Lunt (flute), Ben Williams (French Horn) and Alastair Curle (trumpet) made a joyous and skilful noise and Ben's organ playing was full-blooded and enthusiastic! He clearly relished the Willcocks arrangements for the famous carols and was keen to show off the colours of the organ in Widor's celebrated Toccata finale.

Well done to the choir for their hard work and eager effort to sing with cheerful endeavour! Keira, our soloist in "Once in Royal", sang with poise and skill and all played their part in such a joyous event. 

"What a joy it was to sing and join in the Lessons & Carols service last night!" said one of our recently-returned choir members. 

"I just wanted to thank you for last night’s Service, and for giving us the joy of wonderful choral singing , a clear light during these dark times. Thank you also for joining St Michael’s and for becoming our Musical Direcrtor, Bill, we are truly blessed to have you with us. On my way out Liam told me he had never enjoyed singing in Church so much, praise indeed!"
